A Day in the Life of a Blogger

A day in the life of a blogger. How I spend my day while blogging and working full-time

7:10am

I begin my day by checking emails in bed. I heard that this is a horrible way to start off your day, because you aren’t actually “ready” to do anything until you are at your desk. I don’t actually respond to these emails just yet, but I like see what has happened overnight and what is on the books for the day.

7:20am

Every morning, I walk Mochi and feed him his breakfast. With this routine, Mochi doesn’t even budge if Ernie gets up before me. Ernie is on nighttime duty for Mochi.

^^Sometimes Mochi is a little tired during our morning walk.

7:40am

After walking and feeding Mochi, I head into the shower. I only wash my hair every other day – and live on dry shampoo. Right now, I am loving Eva Nyc Freshen Up Dry Shampoo.

8:15am

If I have something I need to photograph for Instagram that day, I will do it right before work in my bedroom. My bedroom actually has the best light in my apartment! So I will quickly grab what I need and take a few quick pictures. This was one of the pictures I took last week before work!

8:30am

It sucks, but I drive about 8 miles to work and it takes me at least thirty minutes due to traffic. I love listening to my personal daily mix on Spotify or catching up on podcasts during my commute. If you are looking for any new podcasts, I would recommend anything from Gimlet Media

9:00am – 12:00pm

When I get to the office, I either have a morning meeting or I go straight to work. Since my job deals with social media, I usually have messages that came in overnight. Hey – the internet doesn’t sleep!

It’s go, go, go until lunchtime.

12:00pm – 1:00pm

Since starting my new position, I have found a few buddies at work to take blog photos with me. I’m pretty lucky to have met Katherine and Julia!

Last week, Julia and I took some photos in the rain during our lunch break.

^^ My husband and I have been converting all of our headsets to Bluetooth. My husband and I have been trying out these Samsung Level U Bluetooth headphones since Christmas.

Ernie loves using them during his golf practice because they don’t fall out when he swings the club. He found that these headphones sync up fast and don’t lose connection while playing.

I love being able to use them while I’m running. I like that they don’t make my ears sweaty compared to over-ear Bluetooth headphones. They are a steal at $40.99 at Mobile Fun.

1:00pm – 4:30pm

If I choose to take photos during lunch, I will eat lunch at my desk. If I don’t take photos during lunch, I love eating at Lemonade. Their meals are simple and healthy…if you don’t get tempted by their white truffle macaroni and cheese!

4:30pm – 5:15pm

I try to leave work by 4:30pm because the traffic becomes horrible as it gets closer to 5. If I am lucky it will take 30-45 minutes to get home.

Once the weather gets better and it’s not dark by 5 pm, I will start taking the train to work because there is a 10-minute bullet. The only catch is that I would have to talk about a mile to the train station. But that would be a good way to get in daily exercise!

5:30pm – 10:00pm

My night always varies when I get home from work. The first thing I do is walk Mochi if Ernie hasn’t arrived yet. It’s so sweet how excited he is to see me! We go on a long walk or if the weather is good, we will drive to the dog park so he can run around.

After Mochi’s walk, I either head to the gym or I begin dinner.

Then my night ends by catching up on blog work by writing blog posts, editing photos, or adding to my Buffer queue. If I am really busy during the week, I like to use Buffer and Hootsuite to schedule my social media posts. This is a huge time saver for me!

Another easy way to edit photos is to batch them in Lightroom. I took a class from Brit. co on how to edit photos in Lightroom and it helped me so much. I was intimated at first because I only had experience with Photoshop, but now I am hooked on Lightroom!

I took this class (Learn How to Edit Your Photos in Lightroom) and it was completely worth the $29 price tag. Now my photos are edited and sized all at once!

Bed at 10:30pm

I try to get in bed by 10:30 each night. Sometimes my nights go a little long due to work and I am in bed around midnight.

That’s my typical day in a nutshell! How do you manage to blog and work full-time? Let me know in the comments if you are balancing your blog life and work life!

How nice that you have buddies to take photos on your lunch break! I used to use a tripod during my lunch and it was such a pain!
