Life is a little bit more fun now that my mom and I can share a bottle of Butter Chardonnay. When I head up to Sonoma to visit my mom, I love opening up a bottle of wine while we catch up. This Mother’s Day, I came up with 25 questions to ask your mom to find out more about motherhood.

Questions to ask your mom on Mother's Day

When I visit my mom for the weekend, I love packing a bottle (or two) of wine to share. It’s so fun to be able to get away from Silicon Valley and head out into the country.

Butter Chardonnay is actually one of my favorite wines to drink. It has this rich creaminess that pairs perfectly with a charcuterie plate or it’s fabulous its own.

Now that the weather warmed up, stick a few in the refrigerator for when friends stop by!

Some questions my mom answered for me

Do you think it’s harder or easier to be a mother now than when you were raising your family?

Today it is almost a necessity for Mothers to go back to work. Especially in the Bay Area with the overall cost of living. The pressure to be all things to all in the family the pressure can be immense. Trying to be a good mother and a good employee puts extra stress on today’s Moms. I was very fortunate to be able to stop working for several years and enjoy bringing up my young children. I did not have that luxury with my first born and I feel that I missed a great deal with him. Today’s women spend a great deal of time getting their careers started and the decision to remove yourself from the workforce is a difficult one at best.

What is the best part about being my mother?

The very best part is watching you grow and learn all sorts of new things. From infancy to young womanhood has been a bright light in my life. You have developed into a capable and intelligent woman with a true sense of self and confidence. It makes me proud to see all that you have done and continue to do. You have a big heart and a caring spirit. I am truly proud to be able to say that I am your Mother.

Did you find out my gender before I was born or after?

We decided that we wanted to know the sex of our twins so that we could be more prepared. Having twins was enough of a challenge and being able to have upfront knowledge made one thing easier. It didn’t matter what the sex was we just wanted to be better prepared.

What is your very first memory of me?

Seeing you in the NICU and realizing how small and delicate you were. I was truly frightened. I was not able to hold you for several days. Looking back on this made me realize how much I missed not being able to make that initial connection and bonding with you as your Mom.

Who was the first person you told that you were pregnant with me?

It was your father. Then your grandparents and Gammer. Needless to say, all were shocked when we found out it was twins.

When I was little, what did you think I was going to be when I grew up?

I was not sure what you would do. I thought that because you really liked children you might have become a teacher.  Because you are so outgoing I really did not worry. You have always been a go-getter. You work hard and you don’t quit. All characteristics of a successful person. You always amaze me.

I love this idea. I might like to try doing a similar thing with my grandmother. Although I think you should rephrase #14. Makes it sound like giving birth is a bad thing. In my experience, it was actually pretty awesome. 🙂
