Hog Island Oyster Company

Let me begin by saying, our day trip to Hog Island Oyster Companyย almost didn’t happen.

Day trip to Hog Island Oyster Company in Marshall, California

About two weeks ago, our friends secured us a table at Hog Island. During the weekend, the restaurant is reservation only, and the tables are always in demand.

To make the day trip a little more special, I asked to driveย the new 2016 Toyota 4Runner. I thought the 4Runner would be the perfect SUV to take up the coast. Plus it would be comfortable enough for Mochi to ride in the back!

Our reservation was set for 1:30pm, so since everyone was coming from different directions, we decided to meet there. Google Maps had told us it would take 1hr 30min to get to Hog Island, so Ernie and I didn’t think much of it when we left the house around 11am.

We were so wrong! It took us almost four hours to get to the restaurant.ย

Since we went through San Francisco to get up the coast, we got stuck on 19th avenue. Hog Island doesn’t have cell phone service, so none of our friends knew that we were having trouble getting through the city.

^^Mochi was such a trooper. He just hung out in the back of SUV and watched traffic.

Not only did we get stuck through 19th Avenue in the city, but we also went over Mt. Tamalpais! This was when I was pretty happy that we were in the 4Runner. The road was super curvy, there were bikers and hikers on the road, and it was nice to feel safe in a bigger car.

This is how winding the road was on the mountain.

When we finally made it up to Hog Island, we had totally missed our reservation. But now we were worried that we wouldn’t be able to find our friends, since no one could get our text messages.

Luckily, we immediately found our friend Cindy. They were in line to get some oysters to go! Since I didn’t get to try any of the oysters at Hog Island, Cindy said I could eat some at her house.

Here’s what we missed at Hog Island.

After our brief stop at Hog Island, we headed back up to Point Reyes to visit Cowgirl Creamery.

^^ Here’s Mochi hanging out in the back of the SUV with his best friend, Pablo.

Ernie and I were pretty happy to get out of the car and stretch our legs for awhile. Plus, we finally got to eat something!

Since we were already up in the North Bay, we all decided to keep going north to Russian River Brewing Co. in Santa Rosa. They are famous for their Pliny The Elder beer, which people will wait in line for hours!

Well, we weren’t that lucky enough to eat at the restaurant because we had the dogs with us. Dogs were not allowed on the patio, which was a bummer. So, we made our way to Belly Left Coast Kitchen.

^^Their Kalua pork tacos were BOMB. I could have eaten two more.

At the end of the night, we went back to Russian River Brewing Co. and my friends picked up some Pliny The Elder. To be honest, that isn’t my favorite beer. A nice way of saying I didn’t like it! I am not a fan of really hoppy IPA beers, so I didn’t take any home. But it was fun to try this highly sought after beer.

The next day, Cindy had me over to try some of the Hog Island Oysters.

^^These oysters were MASSIVE!

I loved being able to visit a new part of California and spend time with my friends. Even though we didn’t get to enjoy the oysters at the farm, I was happy that I got to visit Cowgirl Creamery. Their cheese is incredible! But then, it might be a lot easier to get the cheese at Whole Foods Market next time ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. the dress looks super cute, esp with the denim jacket. ๐Ÿ™‚ I still have yet to try stitch fix. I feel like I have such a weird body type that not many clothes fit great on me. I always have to try it out. I guess you can always return the ones that don’t work though.

    1. I think it only gets better with each Fix. My first Fix was kind of a dud, but I learned to be more specific with what I was looking for and I end up keeping a lot!
